Porting Checklist: Spectrum Mobile

How to port your Spectrum Mobile number to Phound, including the critical "port before you cancel Spectrum Internet" warning.

Porting Checklist: Spectrum Mobile

Spectrum Mobile is Charter's MVNO on the Verizon network. Porting out uses a generated Transfer PIN from the My Spectrum app, and there's one huge gotcha specific to Spectrum Mobile: port your number before you cancel Spectrum Internet, because canceling Internet can suspend your mobile line and block the port.

Spectrum Mobile does not charge a port-out fee.

What You Need from Spectrum Mobile

  • Your Spectrum Mobile account number (different from your Spectrum Internet account)
  • A Transfer PIN (generated in the app — not the 4-digit billing security code)
  • The primary account holder's name exactly as on your Spectrum account
  • The service address on the bill

Step 1: Find Your Spectrum Mobile Account Number

  • spectrum.net: Sign in → Billing → at the top of the Mobile statement
  • My Spectrum app: Open → tap the mobile line → account details
  • Paper bill: Top-right corner
  • Confirm it's the Mobile number — Spectrum Internet accounts have a different number

Step 2: Port Your Number BEFORE Canceling Spectrum Internet

This is the single biggest rejection cause for Spectrum Mobile ports.

Warning: If you cancel Spectrum Internet before porting your mobile number, Spectrum Mobile can auto-suspend the line, and a suspended line cannot be ported. Always port first, then cancel Internet.

Spectrum historically required an active Spectrum Internet (or other residential) subscription to maintain a Spectrum Mobile line. Standalone mobile now exists in limited scenarios, but the prevailing rule still ties them together — confirm your account type before making any changes.

Step 3: Generate Your Transfer PIN

Option A: My Spectrum App or Website

  1. Sign in to the My Spectrum app or spectrum.net.
  2. Go to Services → Mobile.
  3. Select the line you want to port.
  4. Generate the Transfer PIN.

An alternate in-app path: Account → Profile → Transfer PIN.

Option B: Phone

Call 1-833-224-6603 (Spectrum Mobile Care) and ask an agent to generate one. You can also reach the porting team at 1-833-949-0036.

PIN Validity

Treat as approximately 7 days — Spectrum does not publish a formal validity window. Generate the PIN close to when you're ready to submit the port, not days in advance.

Warning: Do not use the old 4-digit billing security code from your bill — that's a legacy identifier and often fails today. The generated Transfer PIN is what current carriers expect.

Step 4: Verify Account Name and Address

  • Full legal name of the primary account holder — Spectrum often stores names as "FIRSTNAME M LASTNAME" with middle initial, so match that exact format
  • Service address as printed on the bill (not just shipping address)
  • Update address in Spectrum first if you recently moved

Step 5: Confirm Account is Active

  • Line must be active and in good standing
  • Brand-new accounts (less than 30 days old) may be auto-blocked from porting
  • Any port within the last 30 days can block a new port

Step 6: Submit Your Port Request in Phound

  1. Open PhoundSettings > Numbers > Port a Number.
  2. Enter the Spectrum Mobile number.
  3. Provide the Mobile account number, Transfer PIN, primary account holder name, and service address.
  4. Submit.

Track in Check Your Porting Status.

After the Port Completes

Only after your Spectrum Mobile port is successful should you cancel Spectrum Internet (if you planned to).

Timeline

  • Typical: A few hours to 24 hours
  • Can take: Up to 72 hours

Spectrum does not publish a formal SLA for ports.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • Canceled Spectrum Internet first → mobile line suspended → port rejected
  • Used the old 4-digit billing security code instead of the newly generated Transfer PIN
  • Name mismatch — missing middle initial
  • Service address vs. billing address confusion on multi-address accounts
  • Port attempted within 30 days of a recent port
  • Multiple lines — each line needs its own Transfer PIN
