Porting Checklist: Ooma
Ooma has two consumer products: Ooma Office (business) and Ooma Telo / Ooma for Home (residential). They have different port-out fees, so the first thing to confirm is which product you have.
| Product | Port-out fee |
|---|---|
| Ooma Office | Free |
| Ooma Telo / Residential | $39.99 per number |
Both per Ooma's official rates page at ooma.com/legal/rates.
What You Need from Ooma
- Your Ooma account number (from your billing profile)
- Your account holder name and service address as on the Ooma account
- A signed Letter of Authorization (LOA) — Phound provides the template
- The phone number(s) you want to port
Ooma does not use a Transfer PIN. If Phound's form has a PIN field, use 0000.
Ooma Office (Business)
Port-out Fee: Free
Step 1: Contact Ooma to Initiate
Ooma Office port-out is not self-serve in the admin portal (that UI covers inbound porting only). Contact Ooma Office Customer Care to start the release process — or have Phound submit the port request with the info below.
Step 2: Make Sure Your Port Is Submitted as Wireline
Ooma numbers are landline class. Make sure the new carrier submits a Local Service Request (LSR) / wireline port, not a wireless port. Wireless-port submissions are a common rejection cause for Ooma Office.
Step 3: Gather Your Account Info
- Account name on the underlying carrier record (confirm with Ooma support — some users report it appears as "OOMA INC")
- Account number — the exact format isn't publicly documented by Ooma, so confirm with Ooma support when you open the port-out request
- Service address exactly as on your Ooma account
Tip: Since Ooma doesn't publish the exact account number format, always call Ooma support (877-353-5185) to confirm before submitting the port.
Step 4: Keep Ooma Office Active
- Don't cancel service until the port completes.
- Once the port completes, Ooma service on that number auto-terminates. Confirm full account cancellation separately if you have other services.
Ooma Telo / Ooma for Home (Residential)
Port-out Fee: $39.99 per number
This is charged on your final Ooma bill after cancellation. Some users report it showing on the last invoice — watch for it.
Tip: Ooma Premier annual subscribers get waived port-in fees, but the $39.99 port-out fee still applies for Telo.
Step 1: Contact Phound to Initiate
Ooma Telo port-out is not self-serve. Contact Phound or Ooma Customer Care to start.
Step 2: Gather Your Account Info
- Account holder name and service address on the Ooma account
- Ooma account number from My Ooma billing
- PIN: not used; use 0000 if required by the gaining form
- Signed LOA
Step 3: Keep Ooma Service Active Until Port Completes
Do not cancel Ooma before the port finishes. Canceling releases the number back to Ooma's pool and the port fails.
Step: Submit Your Port Request in Phound
- Open Phound → Settings > Numbers > Port a Number.
- Choose whether you're porting from Ooma Office or Ooma Telo.
- Provide the info above along with the signed LOA.
- Submit.
Track in Check Your Porting Status.
Timeline
Ooma doesn't publish a separate port-out SLA. Expect:
- Ooma Office: 5–10 business days (standard wireline LSR timeline)
- Ooma Telo: 7–10 business days
Common Rejection Reasons
- Wrong port type — submitted as wireless when it should be wireline (LSR)
- Account name / address mismatch with Ooma's records
- Account canceled before port completed
- Outstanding balance
